Helping Clients Develop & Execute an Issues Management Strategy

As we often tell potential clients, if you manage an issue as if it were a crisis there’s a better chance that issue won’t turn into a crisis which then turns into a catastrophe. In these cases, we work with our clients to develop an issues management strategy that includes ongoing, targeted communication to stakeholders. Such plans may address situations where:

  • The product, service or organization is the target of organized misinformation generated by competitors, activists or others with an agenda
  • The threat is gaining traction on social media, especially among market influencers
  • The threat involves complex issues that need to be translated into simple language in order to educate stakeholders and retain their support of the client’s position
  • Outside parties or third-party validation may underscore the client’s position or the response it is making to the issue at hand
  • Others in the sector may be facing the same threat and it may make sense to work with vendors, customers or even competitors to reach decision-makers
  • The threat could result in punitive regulations, restrictions or other market-limiting action
  • The client faces a significant organizational change (leadership, workforce, products) that may be misinterpreted without clear communications to explain the rationale
  • The issue is far-ranging and complex, requiring a broad cross-section of the management team to identify solutions, with communications sitting at the table to craft messages and identify ways to take them to the marketplace
